Our Story
Plantsdrop was born in Ayer Itam, Penang, where founder Shawn Ch’ng grew up under the guidance of his grandfather. In the quiet mornings of Penang’s hills, Shawn learned not just how to brew a cup of coffee, but how patience, care, and respect for ingredients create true flavor.
His grandfather taught him the ritual: roasting beans gently, grinding them by hand, and brewing slowly to release their natural aroma. These lessons instilled in Shawn a lifelong passion for coffee and a belief that every cup tells a story of heritage and craft.
Armed with an M.B.A. from Southern Pacific University, USA, Shawn transformed those childhood lessons into a global vision. From trading green beans in 2007 to supplying local factories and Hong Kong traders, he built Plantsdrop on the foundation of tradition and precision.
Today, Plantsdrop connects Global Beans with a Local Roasted Recipe, honoring Penang’s heritage while delivering world-class coffee to every corner of the globe.
